THOMAS GREGORY STRAUSKI, SR. After a lengthy illness, on Friday, June 11, 2004, at Deer Lodge Centre, Thomas Gregory Strauski, beloved father and grandfather passed away at the age of 65 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Jennifer Strauski (David Harrison) four sons, Daniel Wichert (Darlene Nyman), Kerry Wichert, Jeff Wichert (Janice Dilk) and Thomas J. Strauski, Jr.; grandson Dorian; many grandchildren; sister Helen Kemp (California) childrens mother, Patricia Strauski; nieces, nephews and friends. Tom was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Stephen Strauski and his niece Lisa Kemp. Tom was born in the City of Flin Flon, MB on September 3, 1938. In 1958 he graduated from the University of Manitoba school of music with First Class Honours. He also earned a degree in Science. In 1958, Tom joined the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery Band (R.C.H.A.). Sargent Tom Strauski played the largest instrument in the R.C.R. Bands saxaphone section, the baritone sax. Tom was, what they called in the trade, a double threat man. Which means that he performed on two instruments, the other instrument being the clarinet. In 1968, the R.C.H.A. Band was disbanded and Tom found himself making the trip east to the Canadian Forces Base, Camp Gagetown in Oromocto, NB. In 1971, Tom was stationed back to Winnipeg and moved there with his family. In 1972, Tom retired from the service. In January of 2003, Tom retired from Manitoba Telephone System where he had worked for 25 years. In his free time his passion was his garden and biochemistry. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 15, between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Memorial service will follow on Wednesday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. also at Cropo Chapel. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital on floor 5 East and the intensive care unit. We would also like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre.
