Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE EDWARD HORNBECK 1910 - 2004 On Sunday evening, June 13, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle and friend, George Hornbeck, passed away peacefully with his family at his side. George will be lovingly missed and dearly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Margaret; and his children: Carol (George-deceased), Fay (Dennis), Donna (Patrick), Marc (Louise), and Dale (Monica). George had a unique and special relationship with each of his grandchildren and his memory will be cherished by Terry, Karen and Tanis; Christine, Cameron and Glenn; Dawn, Tracey and Dan; Daniel and Madison. George felt blessed to be able to welcome into the family his great-grandchildren: Liam and Ailis; Max; Robyn, Connor, Mackenzie, Alexander and Jacquelyn; Nicholas and Marcus; Nicole and Matthew; Amanda and Tessa. George is also survived by his sisters, Belle Helander and Meta Verbrugge; and brothers, Bill (Evelyn) and Hugh (Phyllis) and numerous nieces and nephews. George was born in Kingston, ON and raised on the family homestead in Balmoral, MB. Georges strong work ethics and integrity served him well in his years of service at Sirett Construction through to his retirement as Maintenance Supervisor from Manitoba Hydro in 1976. As a young lad he took up what would be lifelong interests, target shooting and hunting. George bested the best at the Fort Garry Horse marksmanship competition at the age of 17, his first of many medals. His interest in shooting became his lifelong passion that took him to numerous provincial rifle shooting match honors. George won the Lieutenant Governors medal for the top marksman in Manitoba and he represented Manitoba at the Commonwealth matches in Ottawa. George was a fine carpenter and was often called upon to make repairs or build something for family and friends. He loved fishing and he cherished the times spent at George and Betula Lakes and Lake of the Woods with his family and many friends. His stories, irreverent sense of humor and sharp wit kept us all entertained. All of Georges accomplishments and adventures were shared with Margaret, the one true love of his life. Together they are proud of each and every one of their family. We will remember you, Dad, for your determination, your inventive nature and your abilities, your humor, your tenderness and generosity, your amazing work ethic, and for your honesty and integrity. Yours was a life well and fully lived. We celebrate your life and are thankful you were ours to know and love. Georges family thank the care-givers that kept him happy and comfortable at his home in the Kiwanis Chateau, and the staff at Parkview Place who cared for him this past year. A celebration of Georges life will be held on Monday, June 21 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may wish to donate to the CNIB, 1080 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3 or a charity of their choice.
