JAMES DONALD (DON) ADAMS January 31, 1930 - June 12, 2004 Peacefully on June 12, 2004, Dad passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. With his family and friends by his side he quietly left us to be reunited with his parents, Chuck and Helen Adams, his brothers, Bill and Dale and many friends. Dad will be greatly missed by his companion of 18 years Dorothy Daun; his sons, Derek (Debbie) of Abbotsford, B.C., Darrell (Pat) and his daughter Barb (Glenn) Muzik; his grandchildren, Jared and Kevin Adams; Katie and Marcie Muzik. His memory will also be cherished by his extended family who knew him as Dad and Grandpa; Kim and Jerry Boychuk; Jan and Steve George; Laird and Christina Sutherland and their families. He leaves to mourn his brother Barry (Marilyn) Adams; sisters, Margaret Irving, Beverly Sutherland, and Betty-Ann (Vern) Martin, and numerous nieces, nephews and good friends. Dad was born in Carlyle, Saskatchewan, the oldest of seven children. The Family moved to Winnipeg where they were raised in the North End. He entered the Winnipeg Fire Department in 1953 and was very proud of his 31 years of service, retiring in 1984. He loved his work and truly enjoyed the camaraderie with his fellow firefighters. He had a great respect for those who served on the department. Dad married our mother Patricia McMillan in 1951. They lived most of their married life in Transcona where they raised their three children. Dad became a dedicated volunteer in the community. He was an anchor in establishing hockey programs as sports director at the East End Community Club. Dad also loved fishing and hunting and was VP of the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, volunteered as a board member of Winnipeg Game and Fish, Ducks Unlimited, Winnipeg Trap and Skeet Club where he founded the Manitoba Junior Shotgun Association. At the time of his passing Dad was president of the National Firearms Association-Manitoba Chapter. Most recently Dad was an active board member of two seniors clubs, the Adamar, which he founded and VP of The Good Neighbours Club. Dad was a great man who will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all the friends and acquaintances whose lives he has touched. Thank you to all the friends and family that supported Dad and especially the Concordia Hospital Nursing Staff of 2E. The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale in East Kildonan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dads memory to the CancerCare Manitoba or the Firefighters Burn Fund. The glory of Heaven shone upon you He cast His peaceful light You were embraced in the arms of the Lord It was time to take your flight
