OTTO GERULL 1926 - 2004 After a lengthy illness and a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Otto (Papa) Gerull on Monday, June 14, 2004 at the Vita and District Health Centre at the age of 77 years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Gisela Gerull (nee Balz) of Vita, MB; daughters, Sandra (David) Maxymowich of Vita, Rita Gerull of Winnipeg, MB; and one grandson Jordan Maxymowich of Vita. One brother Willie Gerull of Germany and one sister Greta Buttner also of Germany. Otto was predeceased by his son Richard; parents, Emilie and Georg of Germany; brothers, Kurt, Bruno, Paul, Hans; and one sister Anna. Born in Ostpreusen, Germany on June 29, 1926, Otto served in the Second World War at the young age of 17. In 1954 he came to Canada where he worked for many years as a logger and prospector, later he returned back to Germany where he met his wife Gisela Balz, whom he married on April 19, 1968. They farmed at Carrick, MB until his retirement in 1996 at which time they moved to Vita. Otto enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife and the farm, which was his pride and joy. Funeral service for Otto will be held on Friday, June 18 at Vita Funeral Home, Vita at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in the Badger Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearer will be Jordan Maxymowich. Active Pallbearers will be David Maxymowich, Jerry Maxymowich, Russell Maxymowich, Gordon Lempen, Randolph Lempen and Scott Johnston. We the family wish to thank Dr. Glezerson, Dr. Smith, Dr. Krahn and staff at the Vita and District Health Centre. Donations in Ottos memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
