LESLIE LEOPOLD KOLT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie Leopold Kolt, at the age of 76, at the Health Sciences Centre, after a brief battle with leukemia. Leslie is survived by his loving wife Frances Rose of 47 years, sons Howard (Jeanette), and Owen of Calgary, grandchildren, Steven and Jesslyn, Bryce, Kieran and Shayla. Les was born in Winnipeg, where he resided his entire life. After graduating from The University of Manitoba with degrees in Science and Education, he began his 38 year career in education with the Winnipeg School Division. Throughout his career, Leslie taught science at various schools and ended his career as principal at Lord Selkirk Elementary School in June of 1990. Les enjoyed encouraging smiles and enthusiasm from the children. During his career, and well into retirement, Les and his family enjoyed many summer vacations travelling throughout Canada and the northern States. These summer trips became a ritual with the Smith family when many good times and a lot of laughs were shared. In retirement, Les and Frances enjoyed many winters in Arizona. Les good nature and warm heart made it easy to see the love he had for those close to him. His infectious smile and unique sense of humour were easy to return. Les was a positive influence to all around him. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, reading, gardening and challenging many different golf courses. Most of all, Les loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Les is also survived by his Big Sister Jean Luty of Lindsay ON., his brother Stanley (Alexandra) of Toronto, brothers-in-law Ken (Millie) Mainer and Ralph Mainer and sister-in-law Dorothy (Bert) Rafferty along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends. Les had many laughs and good times with Ken Mainer, Lassy Malowany, Carl Smith and Walter Stackiw. In his sickness he was grateful to the family members who were able to visit with him and share stories and smiles of the days past. Les was predeceased by his parents, Marian and Anna Kolt, his brother Edward and sister-in-law Evangeline Kolt, brother-in-law Joseph Luty, his father and mother-in-law Jack and Phyllis Mainer. Cremation has taken place upon Less request and a graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery at 11:30 am, (3001 Notre Dame Ave.) Monday, June 21, 2004.
