EUGENE UHRYNIUK After a courageous battle with cancer, Eugene Uhryniuk, aged 90, passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital with his family at his side on Tuesday, June 15, 2004. He leaves to mourn his passing son Eugene (Shannon) grandsons, Julian and Dylan; sister Sally Hawrish of Windsor, ON; brother-in-law Joe Taddia of Las Vegas; sister-in-law Joyce Chambers of West St. Paul; godson Rev. Richard Hawrish of Windsor; great-niece Joanne Hawrish of Toronto; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Yustyna (Jean) in 1994, and sister Jean Taddia in 2003. Eugene was born on January 1, 1914 in Winnipeg. He attended Norquay School and St. Johns High School. After apprenticing in pharmacy, he entered the College of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1941. In 1946, Eugene founded Charles Drugs, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1987. Eugene always enjoyed helping people and was well known in the Ukrainian, pharmaceutical and North End communities. He enjoyed the challenges of business and pharmacy, and was awarded both the 50 year pin and lifetime memberships by the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association. In 1961, Eugene married Yustyna (Jean) Chymbur and they had one son. Eugene was a loving and devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his family. Their home was always filled with warmth of family and friends. Eugenes sense of humour, and kind and gentle nature will be missed by all who knew him. Eugene was an accomplished violinist who played in the Winnipeg Chamber Orchestra and taught a number of students while attending university. He had a love for music, gardening, and in his retirement years, he enjoyed winemaking with the grapes he carefully grew in his yard. Eugenes greatest joy was always his family and Gigi enjoyed every moment with his grandchildren and developed a special bond with them. He took great pride in their achievements. He cherished the time spent playing in the games room at Amber Meadow, where he spent the final year and a half of his life. He developed many friendships and renewed others in his time at Amber Meadow. He was named the "friendliest person" by the residents and one of the highlights was the celebration of his 90th birthday. His love and caring for people remained a constant throughout his illness, just as it had been throughout his life. Prayers will be said on Friday, June 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home, with Fr.
