YOLANDA MARIA (LANI) HARMEL (nee LOSCHIAVO) Peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, Lani went to meet her maker. Lani was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg and is survived by her adoring husband of 30 years, Louis; her sons, Alf (Lynne), Lorne (Taralyn) and daughter Jodi (Don) granddaughter Lauren; mother Adelina; her sister Sera (George) and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and their children. Her father Guiseppe Loschiavo, whom she doted on with loving care, predeceased her last summer. Lanis main focuses in life were her children and her family, devoting her life to ensuring their happiness. She had a special affection for her granddaughter Lauren and showed constant concern for her welfare. Being surrounded by friends and family provided Lani with particular joy. Countless cooked meals were prepared with love, devotion and care, creating countless memories for all. Dinner tables were a source of laughter as many favourite stories were shared over and over again. She always seemed to be sacrificing her own time and energy to help others, especially children. The bigger the underdog, the more she reached out and the greater was her capacity to love. In quiet times Lani sought the sanctuary of her garden and explored her creative talents through her love of handmade cards, crochet and other crafts. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Prayers will be said at Thomson "In the Park", Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Sunday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl., with Rev. Michael Koryluk presiding at the Eucharist. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Lani may be made to the Rainbow Society of Manitoba, 303-1 Wesley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6.
