HELEN LENA DAPTIL (nee KIMISH) August 15, 1917 - June 20, 2004 Baba Lee passed on peacefully early Sunday morning, at her recent home at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, and has now rejoined her beloved husband Pekoe. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Lynda, and husband Mac McCorquodale; son, Bob Daptil; grandchildren, Melissa Ignacz and fiance Greg Downer, Marni and Chad Wolstenholme, Marci and Peri Maric, Matthew DeRyckere, and Garry Daptil; and great-grandchildren, Camryn and Nate Wolstenholme. She was predeceased by her parents; husband Peter Daptil (1996) brother Harry; and son-in-law Craig DeRyckere (2000). Helen Lena Kimish was born in Winnipeg to Ukrainian immigrant parents, and was educated in local schools. She married Peter Daptil in 1938, and together, they raised two children, Lynda and Bob. She worked for several local businesses, in addition to taking care of her family. Babas life and love revolved around her family and friends. She was immensely proud of her family, and actively kept abreast of the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her home, particularly cooking traditional Ukrainian dishes. Everyone enjoyed gifts of her knitting and crocheting. In earlier years, she enjoyed sports and music, dancing and playing the mandolin. In later years, she enjoyed being with friends, playing a variety of card games and games of chance. She read, did her handiwork and enjoyed TV, taking an active interest in local and world affairs. Baba loved to laugh and believed life was to be enjoyed. After the death of her husband, she made her home with daughter Lynda and her family, taking great delight in the unconditional friendship of dogs, Mocha and Hooch, and Bubba the parrot. In 2003, she moved to Middlechurch, which was her home until her passing. Babas family wants to thank the staff at Middlechurch Home for all their loving care and consideration during her time there. Graveside service for Baba Lee will be held Saturday, June 26, 11:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to honour Baba with donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or charities of their choice. Baba Lee, though years have passed and we will be separated by time and death, Though seasons change and with them our world becomes Filled with new hopes and dreams, Though others have become part of our lives, Always remember that you were first in our lives, And that our hearts will always be filled with love for you. Til we meet again - Love Ya, Sweetie! Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044
