IRVIN RICE 1919 - 2004 Peacefully on June 22, 2004 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage La Prairie, our dear dad and grandpa passed away with family by his side. He will be sadly missed and remembered by his children, Christine (Dennis Richardson) and Kevin (Diane) grandchildren, Lindsay, Brittney, Justin, Jenna, Matthew, Andrew, Genevieve, Stephen; and great-grandchildren, Tristan and Adrienne. Irvin also leaves to mourn his passing one sister Irene (Frank Benum) of Toronto, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Peggy; brother Orval; and sisters, Adelaide, Evelyn, Marjorie and Alma. Irvin was born in Dacotah, MB on March 5, 1919, son of Andrew and Cornelia Rice. He attended school at Elm Bank. After leaving school he joined the Canadian Army in 1942. He served with the Second Canadian Scottish Regiment until discharged in 1945. In 1947 Irvin purchased his present homestead and farmed until his retirement in 1992 although he continued to be an active farmer helping his son Kevin. Illness required him to move to the Lions Prairie Manor in Portage La Prairie. In 2001 he moved into the Douglas Campbell Lodge where he lived until his death. Irvin was a quiet loving and generous man with a great love for his family and especially his grandchildren. He loved family gatherings. He was a hard working farmer who took great pride in his accomplishment. He was well known by many especially around the curling rinks which he enjoyed during the winter months. He will be missed by family and friends. A funeral service and celebration on his life will take place on Friday, June 25 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Starbuck, MB at 3:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Irvins name may be made to the Douglas Campbell Lodge, 150 9th Street SE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3T6 or Trinity Lutheran Church memorial fund, Box 118 Starbuck, MB R0G 2P0. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all the caring, compassionate staff at the Douglas Campbell Lodge where Dad was at home for the past three years. Their emotional support during Dads final days was greatly appreciated. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
