IRENE DUNLOP 1908 - 2004 Peacefully, in her sleep, Irene Dunlop died on Saturday, June 26, at West Park Manor. She was predeceased, in 1984, by her beloved husband, Edwin Dunlop. She is survived by her two daughters, Gail Carroll and husband, Henry, of Brandon, and Frances Pollock and husband, Walter, of Winnipeg, and also by her four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gails children are Dennis Carroll and wife, Kathy, of Chicago, Illinois, and Dr. Leslie Rowan, husband, Keith, and infant son, Benjamin, of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Frans children are Michael Pollock and wife, Jackie, and Becky King, husband, Doug, and children, Jacob and Emma, all of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her brother, Lin Hodnett of Winnipeg, her dear friend and sister-in-law, Marion Dunlop of Toronto, and two nieces, Joan Brooke and Pat Gould. Irene was born on November 8, 1908, into a pioneer family in the Miniota area of Manitoba. She was educated in the Miniota school and at the University of Manitoba where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of 18. She then took teacher training and taught in rural schools until her marriage to Ed in 1936. She returned to teaching in the early 1950s, taught at several Winnipeg schools, lastly at Grant Park, from which she retired in 1972. She was a longtime member of the United Church of Canada, and a life member of the University Womens Club. She was widely travelled, a voracious reader, a good bridge player; she liked to sew and to do smocking and crewel embroidery. In her youth, she played tennis and maintained an interest in the game throughout her life. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, June 30. Interment followed at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
