It is important for me to learn where in Galicia Grandfather Josef Pawlicki came from, with his wife, Antonia, and children, Leon, Stanley, Julian, and Anthony, in 1896. I saw the family bible on a stand in Grandfather's house on Cathedral Avenue in Winnipeg in 1940 or 1942 shortly before he died. As I remember, Anthony's birthplace was entered as Barschew, Kielce, but my memory of the inscription in black ink is vague. A map finds a place of that name about 100 km west of Brest-Litovsk. It is a matter of whether the family came from Emperor Franz Josef's Empire, or Czar Nicholas'. Which side of the border determined their political status during the Great War. - Posted by: Thomas Pawlicki (cousin) on: Sep 11, 2013

My father was Anthony, Sophia's father's younger brother. Between 1930 and 1945, my Uncle Julian ran a convenience grocery, and sold cordwood, hay, and chicken feed at the corner of Worthington and St. Vital Road in Winnipeg. My parents were continually moving. Uncle Julian's home was the only home I knew during my childhood. In 1942, Uncle Julian was forced to rest from a heart attack. My father moved in with Sophia's family from winter to summer, so that he could do the heavy work to keep the business running. Sophia was about 18 then. She was in love eith Albert Kalichak. She loved his eyelashes. We spent a lot of time together as she was learning to drive her father's blue, FORD coupe. I became better acquainted with her than with any other member of the family. Her father was a second father to me. I was 11 years old then. That summer, Uncle Mike brought his children, very talented and pretty Rosemary, and her younger brother Constanc. In the summer of 1946, My father and I visited thr family for a week in Port Alberni. Sohpia and Albert spent a wretched winter in a tent on the property, with their children. I did not see her again until 1972, when I returned to Pine River during Sharon and Bob's wedding. I was happy to see them proud in their new house at Ashville, but sad that Albert spent winters repairing tadios in Chicago. It is important to me to know where in Galicia Grandpa Hosef Pawlicki came from. - Posted by: Bert Pawlicki (Cousin) on: Sep 11, 2013

My Grandpa was Albert Thomas Kalichak who was born in Dauphin; he changed his surname to Wolfe (his Mom was Franciszka Wolf). I'm sure we're family; I would be pleased if someone emailed me. Thank-you. Kyle - Posted by: Kyle Elliot (?) on: Apr 30, 2012
