Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryL. DORIS BAKER, Ph.D. On June 30, 2004, Laura Doris Baker passed away quietly after a long struggle with Parkinsons. She was surrounded in love by her family at the Fort Garry Care Centre. Born in Winnipeg on January 2, 1920, Doris was predeceased by her parents Howard and Edith Baker and her brother and sister-in-law Roy Baker, QC and Patricia Baker. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Beverley and Bishop James Allan, seven nieces and nephews and four great nieces and nephews. Dr. Baker received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education at the University of Manitoba and went on to receive her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Toronto. Her thesis traced the historical development of special educational provisions for exceptional children in Winnipeg, and is still being used as reference material at the U. of Toronto. As a young educator Doris worked in Flin Flon and Carmen Manitoba. Doris was a long time member of All Saints Anglican Church, Winnipeg. She was also proud of her United Empire Loyalist heritage. During her professional career she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Chapter. Her hobbies included photography, especially beautiful close-ups of flowers in all their glorious colours. She also enjoyed Scottish Dancing. Yorkshire Terriers, of which she had several over the years, held a special place in her heart. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at the Thomson Funeral Chapel, Broadway and Sherbrook Ave. The Reverend Jim Draper will be officiating. The family wishes to give sincere and grateful thanks to the staff of Fort Garry Care Centre, who gave Doris such loving care over the past five years.
