JIM MARTON October 31, 1922 - June 29, 2004 Jim passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening at Riverview hospital in the presence of his family following a battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Carlotta; and by his parents, Lydia and Sandor; and stepmother Julia. Jim was born in Mosomagyar Var, Hungary and despite lifes adversities including the Depression, Second World War and experiencing hardships as a POW, he prevailed with an optimistic view of life. He came to Winnipeg in 1957, and worked as a house painter, in upholstery and finally worked at Health Sciences Centre D2 for 19 years, before he retired. He was a humble, gentle person who enjoyed the classics, especially Strauss. He loved to dance, (his specialty was the Waltz) and was active in the Hungarian community plays. He was a creative craftsman and loved spending time playing Canasta at the cottage. He enjoyed nature and was faithful in feeding the birds and squirrels. It was always a priority to put his family first and thus will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter Anna Kovacs; grandchildren, Chris Marton, Melissa (Mark) Toews; and his brother Nandor Marton. Thanks to WRHA home care, Armando, Sylvia and Hope for your special care. Dr. Rubinger (Cancer Care), James and the staff at Riverview 3 East wing. A private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society in his memory.
