DOROTHY BEATRICE STEVENSON Dorothy Beatrice Stevenson, widow of the late David Alexander Stevenson, passed away quietly after a brief illness at Deer Lodge Centre on July 2, 2004 at the age of 103, with family by her side. Dorothy was born in Canning Town, London, England on September 22, 1900, daughter of Edward and Alice Duce. At the age of six, her family immigrated to Canada and settled in Wawanesa, MB. There she grew up along with her four brothers and two sisters. Upon graduating from high school she took a secretarial course in Brandon and then returned to Wawanesa where she was a secretary with the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company for 12 years. On February 5, 1930, she married her late husband, Alex and together they lived in Lauder, Moore Park, Arborg and Morris where Alex was a grain buyer for Manitoba Pool Elevators. In 1948, Alex was transferred to Winnipeg. They lived for a short time on Home Street before moving to their home on Windermere Avenue where she lived for 48 years. Over the years, Dorothy was very active in the various communities in which she lived, singing in the church choir and participating in the local community events and womens associations. She particularly enjoyed curling and curled at the Pembina Curling Club for many years. Dorothy and Alex were involved in the formation of Windermere United Church. When that congregation was disbanded, they became active members of Fort Garry United Church. Dorothy is survived by her children, Margaret (John) Mundie, Jack (Velma), Myrna Sharpe, and Ken (June) eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are sisters, Eleanor Duce and Jean (Art) Snuggs; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her four brothers (Charles, Fred, Arthur and George), daughter-in-law Ina Stevenson and son-in-law Sigurd Sharpe. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care given to Dorothy by the staff at Fort Garry Care Centre and 3 East at Deer Lodge Centre. A celebration service of Dorothys remarkable life will be held on Saturday, July 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Rd., with Cathy Kinsman officiating. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to the Fort Garry United Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of their choice. THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
