DORIS ELIZABETH REID (BELL) Passed away peacefully on Monday, July 5, 2004 at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, MB, surrounded by her family. Doris was born in Morden, MB on June 13, 1919 to William and Edythe Bell. Doris lived most of her life in the Myrtle area, where she met and married Doug Reid, who predeceased her on October 1993. She is survived by her three daughters, Janie Reid (Ed), Lilla Letkeman (Fred) and Donna Cameron (Jim) seven grandchildren, Jamie Stewart (Regan), Jason Stewart (Dena), Matthew Dingle (fiancee Courtney), Daniel Dingle (Carla), Scott Cameron, Christine (Fiancee Anton) and Kathleen Cameron; three great-grandchildren, Adrianna and Alexandria Dingle and Matthew Stewart. Also left to cherish her memory are her brother Bill Bell (Barb) brothers-in-law, George Carnegie and Les Sundell; sisters-in-law, Wilma Milne, Nellie Reid and Janet Bell; special cousin Rhea Livingston; longtime dear friend Beryl Long; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Thompson, Bessie Reichert, Katherine Carnegie; and brothers, Norman and Bob Bell; as well as sisters-in-law, Ethel Bell, Betty Bell, Helen Sundell, Margaret Reid; and brothers-in-law, Nels Thompson, Edmond Reichert and Jim and Charlie Reid. Upon completion of her education in Myrtle, Doris worked at Wrights General Store in Myrtle, clerking and working in the Post Office. During the war, Doris worked in Ottawa for the Civil Service, returning to Winnipeg, where she was hired as the first female mail sorter by the Winnipeg Post Office. Upon her marriage to Doug Reid in 1947, she returned to the Myrtle area where she and Doug farmed and operated Reid Electric until their retirement. She was very involved in all aspects of the community, serving on both church and school boards, active in W.A. and W.I. of which she was a lifetime member. She was very involved in sports all of her life. Baseball remained a passion of hers throughout her life, from the time she played ball in her youth, to playing competitive ball in Ottawa and Winnipeg, where she volunteered to work nights in order to have the time off to play ball. She also curled and her and Dad enjoyed many old time dances. Of utmost importance to Mom always was the well being and happiness of her family and friends. Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 8 at 11:00 in the Roland Municipal Hall with Rev. Chuck Ross officiating. Interment to follow in the Myrtle Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jamie and Jason Stewart, Matthew and Daniel Dingle, Christine and Kathleen Cameron. Honorary Pallbearers will be Beryl Long, Lorne and Lorraine Fife, Wilma Halstead, Laura McLaren, Bob and Linda Pinkerton, Lil Phillips, Robert and Kay Reid, Brad and Lee Ann Winkler. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Myrtle Cemetery Fund through the Roland Municipal Office or to Boyne Lodge, Box 910, Carman, MB.
