FRANK JAMES SMITH It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Frank James Smith, 71, on Monday, July 5, 2004, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Frank is remembered by his loving wife of 44 years, Isabel (Barclay) daughter Laurie; son-in-law Rod; his granddaughters, Leanne and Alicia; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Russell Layman; sister Audrey Lamb; sister-in-law and husband, Laureen and Bob Craib; sister-in-law Betty Peterson and many nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his mother and father, Frank and Harriet Smith; sister Pearl and brother-in-law Wes Fierheller; brother Nelson and sister-in-law Mary; brother-in-law Ray Lamb and Franks first wife Francis Irene (Green). Frank was born, raised and educated in Transcona. As a young man he was employed by the Hudson Bay Northern Stores Fur Trade Dept. and then as a telegrapher for the C.N.R., but most of his working life was spent in funeral service. While working at A.B. Gardiner Funeral Home and later at Thomson Funeral Chapels, he provided the people of Winnipeg with the same compassion and respect in which he lived his life until his retirement in 1991. His true love though, was trains. He loved the time he spent with his friends at Win-N-Trak Model Rail Road and Manitoba Morse Society. In the last few years he had become a porter on the Prairie Dog Express and looked forward most to the school trips and teaching the children the history of the railroad. Frank was past master of Transcona Masonic Lodge and over the years, a member of several fraternal organizations and service clubs. Thank you to Dr. Caners and the staff at the Concordia Hospital for their kindnesses and understanding. According to his wishes, a private family service has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Franks name to a charity of their choice. SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, Beausejour 268-3510 or Man. Toll Free 1-877-776-2220.
