JOACHIM CARYK (JACK CARYK) Jack peacefully passed away on July 6, 2004 at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his wife Rose, his brother William (at an early age), his parents, Dymtro and Maria Caryk and his granddaughter Laurie. He is survived by his daughter Carole (Bob) Nesby, Robert (Diane) Caryk and his grandchildren, Sheri (Bill) Hickey, Marc (Wendy) Bruneau and Melody (Walter) Planidin. Also his great-grandchildren, Jordan, Samantha, Adam, Kyla, Kate-Lynne and Nicholas, his brother Joe, sister Jean and many nieces and nephews. Jack was born November 6, 1912 in Winnipeg where he lived all his life. He attended St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School, Margaret Scott School, Isaac Newton Junior High and St. Johns High School where he learned a mechanical trade. He started his apprenticeship as a Compositor in a Ukrainian newspaper plant in 1931, achieving high honours. He was a member of International Typographical Union for five years. During the war years he went to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway in Weston Shops as a labourer, was promoted to a Machinist in January 7, 1941, retiring in 1977 for a total of 36 years. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, Ukrainian Organization Association of United Ukrainian Canadians, the Workers Benevolent Association and also the Ukrainian Senior Citizens Club. Jack loved his music. He played in orchestras and bands and sang in choirs. He enjoyed gardening, picking blueberries, watching and listening to sports and he also loved to ride his bike. Jack was a caring individual and his family was very important to him. In accordance with Jacks wishes, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be placed in the Elmwood Cemetery family plot. If friends desire they may make a memorial donation to a charity of their choice. A special thanks goes to the staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital 5th floor Unit 7 and the doctors who gave great care and compassion. In accordance to Jacks wishes, no funeral will be held.
