DAVID DARRYL FREDERICK HANSELL "DOC" "Big Dave", 68 years, passed away suddenly on July 5, 2004, while heartily vacationing in Vancouver. Thats what "The Old Man" was all about - livin "La Vida Loca" (the crazy life), whether he was deep sea fishing in Mexico; hunting / enjoying himself at "The Ranch" in Morris; visiting with friends and family; "Hawking in" fish at "The Camp" in Buffalo Point; travelling with Troy in his semi or simply going for a walk with "Trishy-Wishy". Dad was a sports enthusiast - "armchair" and otherwise - and tried everything at least once, but fishing was at the top of his list. "Bop Dave / Bumpa" loved spending time with his grandchildren in Winnipeg and Stony Mountain, even if it was simply watching movies (he was a real Hollywood buff) going to carnivals and "Magicland"; enjoying the kids sporting activities, or going for a drive to get ice cream for the kids as well as his favourite, a butterscotch sundae. Dad also appreciated a fine game of Scrabble and derived much pleasure in a hardy meal: "What a scoff!", hed say. Dad loved to travel and took us many places camping, fishing, boating, canoeing, water/snow-skiing, or just to visit. We also have very fond memories of our Sunday visits to "Bobby & GeeGees" farm in Pine Ridge, the many summers enjoyed at Grand Beach and our trips out west where his parents had eventually retired. It was always an adventure! Everyone who knew Dad will certainly miss his colourful character and wild sense of humour, especially his children, Claude, Cindy, Darryl, Dean and Davey; grandchildren, Alex, Chelsie, Paige, Jenny, Jett, Vann and Zane; special friends, Jerry and Joanne and Betty and Richard; the Masters-Travis family; friends and extended family (also in British Columbia and the United States) not to mention Dads favourite canine companion, "Bud Dog", who is yearning for him. A celebration of Dads life will be held on Monday, July 12, 11:00 a.m. at Lord Roberts Community Club, 725 Kylemore (off Osborne Street S.), Rev. Kerri Hagerman of Stony Mountain United Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, we know that Dad would prefer donations be made to any animal shelter or game and fish association of your choice. "How Many Units, Men?" Mackenzie Funeral Service in care of arrangements, phone 467-2525. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
