SIDNEY BAGEL February 27, 1926 - July 9, 2004 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Sidney Bagel on July 9, 2004, at the age of 78 years. Sidney is survived by his wife of 39 years, Vity, his children, Faren (Larry), Lorne and Steven, grandchildren, Joseph and Jessica, niece Janice and nephews, Norman and David. He was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Cecille and sister Tammy. His life began on February 27, 1926 in Poland. With his parents and younger sister, he came to Canada in 1929. Growing up in the North End of Winnipeg, Sidney learned the value of hard work and that above all else, family and friends were the most important things in every persons life. Sidney began as a waiter with the CNR in May 1949, and finished his 37 year career in a Senior Management position with VIA Rail at their head office in Montreal. He was a hard worker and retired in March 1986, moving back to Winnipeg to be closer to his extended family. He will be forever remembered by his large extended family. Sidney was a devoted, loving and caring person. We will miss his kind and gentle nature and his sense of humour. Nothing was too much when it came to his children and grandchildren. Our thanks to the pallbearers, Larry Hodgson, Norman Usiskin, David Usiskin, Janice Bell, Bill Wolodarsky and Graham Dixon. Honorary pallbearers were Dave Chochinov, Jack Wolodarsky, Martin Levitt, Larry Usiskin and Sid Usiskin. Many thanks to the Community Palliative Care Program, especially visiting nurse MaryAnne Bruce. Our sincere appreciation goes to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit of the St. Boniface General Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Boniface Palliative Care Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
