SAMUEL PEERPONT MAYNES 1916 - 2004 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing at Victoria Hospital on Saturday, July 10, 2004, of our beloved and devoted husband, father, grandparent and friend at the age of 88 years. Sam is survived by his lifelong companion and wife Irma (Kim) whom he married in 1945; his daughter Kathleen; grandchildren, Tina, Cora-Les, James, Jenna-May and Gina-Marie; one great grandchild Isaac; and four sisters and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Sam was born and raised in Harroby, MB. Sam served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War doing aircraft maintenance before he became the Industrial Arts Supervisor in the St. Vital School Division. Sam had a vision to create and Industrial Arts program second to none. In this he succeeded as the Industrial Arts program in St. Vital became and still is the envy of all other school divisions. During his term as Industrial Arts Supervisor he promoted his beliefs before all who would listen, from local trustees to the minister of education. During his educational career he served in many other educational roles, both at the local and provincial levels. Sam was an avid sportsman, participating in hunting, fishing, golf and curling. He and Kim also liked to play bridge and visit with good friends. Sam Maynes was a good man and a loyal and trusted husband, father, grandparent and friend of all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 E. at Navin Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy. No. 1 E. at Navin, 1-877-230-0438
