My Auntie Anne Olynick was my Mom’s favourite sister, so we drove from Sand Hill, Manitoba to Landerville, MB, often to visit her, uncle Mike her husband and son Ronnie. Auntie Anne and uncle Mike had a country store. It was a large room attached to their living quarters and part of their house. The store was one room. There were chocolate bars, bottled soft drinks, candy, canned goods, dry goods and even small hardware available for sale. While visiting there, my Dad would give me a quarter to shop in their store. It pained Auntie Anne to wait while I made my selection of treats. Always a 7-up soft drink, a big chocolate bar and some bubble gum that was a penny each. Gallon jars of penny candy as well as bubblegum Was available. Auntie would not allow me to enjoy any of this until she served a lunch to all of us. I was her “Kitcha” (kitten). She was a great cook.
