Born on Sunday, July 1, 1928 in Winnipeg, Ray made many friends wherever he went. He was a lifelong athlete of great dedication, and accomplishment. In his school years he took part in many Track and Field activities with Cecil Rhodes and Daniel MacIntyre Schools, excelling in the half mile. In 1946 he won the Manitoba Mens half mile, and one mile races. He was the only man to compete in both races, which were only a few hours apart. Ray was also very involved in soccer.
