FREDERICK BENDER Sept. 23, 1920 - July 14, 2004 Lest We Forget Peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2004, Frederick Bender passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. He was predeceased by his wife Osk, parents Alexander and Catherine, brothers, Alex, Ted, Albert, Jack, Bill, Manuel, Ray and sister Freda. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Stacey, Katie, Robyn (Barry), Ryan (Corey) great-grandson Joey; daughter Nancy (Tedd) and son Rick. Fred was born in Aneroid, Saskatchewan in 1920. He enjoyed growing up on the family farm with his many brothers and Freda. He developed a love of farming that continued for all his life. In 1942 Fred enlisted in the Canadian Army, training in Canada and England to later fight with the 2nd Division in Belgium, Holland and Germany. On returning to Canada after the Second World War Fred chose Winnipeg to start his new life. He met the love of his life Osk Einarson and they were married in 1947, He lived in the West End for the next 57 years. Fred worked at Acme Radiators and the Bank of Commerce in the Richardson Building retiring in 1986. Fred enjoyed the many weekends he spent in Gimli with family and friends. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 54 years spending many evenings with comrades at No.1 Legion, St. James Legion and the Gimli Legion. Fred was a loving, caring man who enjoyed his life, making many friends wherever he worked or socialized. We all valued his company and will miss him. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for Fred at the Health Sciences Centre, especially on GD5. A celebration of Freds life will take place at Neil Bardal Inc, 984 Portage Avenue, entrance on Aubrey Street, on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Neil Bardal Inc. 949-2200
