WILLIAM ELDON McGIMPSEY February 25, 1926 - July 16, 2004 Bill will be remembered and missed by his sons, Tom, Dave (Lana), Ken (Laura), and Doug (Esther) his grandchildren, Corey, Meg, Brett, Michael, Bryan, Rebekah, Kyle, and Emily; his brothers, Cliff (Muriel), Len (Phyllis) his sister-in-law Ruth McGimpsey and brother-in-law Tom Webb; his cousin Roberta Wallace; and family friend Joan Hoffman. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (nee Webb) his parents, William and Ella; and his brother Robert. Dad lived all his life in Winnipeg, except for his time in the Navy during the Second World War, when he was stationed in Halifax. After the war he became an accountant, married Margaret Webb and began 36 years at Federated Co-op. He began suffering ill health in 1960. His beloved wife Margaret died in 1961, leaving him with four young boys to raise. Bill and his sons moved from Avondale in St. Vital to Ruby Street in the West End in order to live with his parents. In 1972, after the death of his parents, Bill and his sons move to Trail Avenue in St. James where Dad continued to be a wonderful father, grandfather and father-in-law. Dad lived a quiet life and found pleasure in simple things. He was a man of integrity and strength, overcoming or bearing hardship and pain without complaint and always with dignity. His life and the way he lived it were an example to many people he came in contact with along the way. Bills family would like to thank Health Sciences Centre, especially 4th floor of Rehabilitation Hospital, Home Care and staff at 1010 Sinclair, for the excellent care given to Dad over the years. Also a heartfelt thank you to Nora Schwetz, hemophiliac nurse, who has been a source of compassion, understanding and knowledge for many years. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Hemophilia Society, 932A Erin St., Winnipeg, MB R3G 2W5 or the Manitoba Society for People with Disabilities, 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5.
