VICTOR BRETCHKA December 16, 1932- July 18, 2004 It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather, Victor of Walkeyburg on Sunday, July 18, 2004. After a brief illness, Dad passed peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Health Sciences Centre - SICU. He will be forever missed by his wife, Helen of 47 years, his daughters, Debbie (Raymond) Kashuba and Karen (Glen) Dudeck and his special granddaughters, Karleen and Kimberly. He is survived by one sister Lily (William) Gerylo and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Peter Bretchka, sisters, Mary Boyko, Annie Kostiniuk, Helen Ewasko, Florence Smolinski and brother Martin Bretchka. Dad worked as a labourer all his life, until he retired from the City of Winnipeg in 1995, as a cement truck driver. He took great pride in maintaining his farm yard in a park like setting. In later years Dad took up golf, which he enjoyed playing with his many friends. Dad spent many mornings at the Harvest Moon Cafe in Garson, enjoying coffee with his friends and neighbours, and winter Wednesdays playing whist with the Garson Golden Agers club. His daughters and granddaughters were the light of his life and his talents and values will live on through them. Our family wishes to express heart felt thanks to family and friends for their love and support during Dads illness. Special thanks to the doctors, SICU nurses and staff of the Health Sciences Centre, who kept Dad comfortable through his hospital stay. These are an exceptional group of people. Prayers will be held Thursday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be at the Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk. Interment to follow at the Brookside Cemetery in Walkeyburg. Pallbearers are: Robert Belanger, Wayne Ewasko, Gary Gerylo, Albert Lariviere, Dennis Novak and Ralph Smolinski. If friends desire, donations may be made, in Dads name, to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation - SICU Fund, MS7-820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
