PAUL JOSEPH HANDKAMER
Date of Passing: Jul 18, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL JOSEPH HANDKAMER Peacefully on Sunday, July 18, 2004, with his family at his side Dad passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 55 years Magdalene; his sons Ron (Sandy), Tom (Chris), Bob (Lisa) six grandchildren, Kristen, Brian, Kevin, Melissa, David, and Dayna; his sister Dorothy and two brothers Chris (Anne), and Charles (Elizabeth) sister-in-laws Jo Neil (Bill), and Elsie Schan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father Charles and Elizabeth, and sisters Carol Arklie, Mary, Anna, and Elsie Handkamer. Born in Winnipeg in 1923, Paul attended Faraday and St. Johns High School. At the age of seventeen, Paul enlisted in the R.C.A.F and served his country overseas with the 432nd Squadron rising to the rank of "Flying Officer." Upon Returning to Winnipeg he took employment with Canada Post where he worked for 34 years until his retirement. He began his career as a "railway mail clerk" and moved into the main post office finishing his career in "Industrial Engineering - Methods and Standards." Pauls younger years were spent participating in many sports, but his greatest satisfaction came during his many hunting and fishing trips, especially when accompanied by his brother-in-laws Otto and Bill. He was a long standing member of the Canadian German Society and the St. Johns Sportsmens Club. He enjoyed countless summers with family and friends at the camp at Green Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. His keen interests and active participation in building the camp has and will continue to benefit families for decades to come. Dad never desired to have any more than the simple things in life. Projects he would undertake had to be done to perfection. He took pride in his home and his yard. He enjoyed growing his geraniums and tomatoes and would nurture them to maturity. He loved children and was proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. We will always remember him as a humble man, a man of his word, and a man of honor. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, and the staff on GA-4, SICU and MICU at the Health Sciences Centre, for their kindness, care, and compassion. As per Dads wishes, cremation has taken place. We will celebrate Dads life at his Funeral mass on July 22, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthonys Roman Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Avenue, Monsignor Michael Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers and in honor of his memory, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Just as you were, you will always be, Forever treasured in our memory. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
