CHARLES WILLIAM BURDETT With deepest sorrow we regret to inform you of the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 19, 2004, at home, the way he always wished. Left with a lifetime of memories and sadly missing him is his best friend and devoted wife of 47 years, Patsy and their children, his only daughter Patsy (Syd), grandchildren, Jeff (Colleen) and grandchild Jennifer; son, Garry (Marcella) grandchild Janelle (Jamie) and great-grandchild Dystinee; son David (Carol-Ann), grandchildren, Graham and Shona (Kevin) son Don (Patty), grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan and their mother Kim Foster; son Dan (Laura), grandchildren, Natasha and Ryan, special family, Diane and John Malcolm and their children, Tegan (Richard) and Donny; Donna (Rick) Scofield and Devon. Also surviving Charlie, who all loved him dearly is his sister Louise (Eddie) Sigurdson; brothers, Stan (Edna), Ken (Agatha) and Fred; sister-in-law Rose Burdett and Florence Burdett. He is also survived by his wifes family. His in-laws Al (Gertie) Stinson and family; brother-in-law Mike Chartrand; sisters-in-law, Nora Chartrand and Naomi Chartrand, along with many nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his parents Burt and Grace Burdett; siblings Francis, Frank, Jack, Ted, Dave, Joe and Jim. Charlie and his brother Jim were together in the war and also at the time of Jims passing. Charlie was very proud of his military service. He enlisted June 9, 1941 with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment, took training at Fort William, ON, left for overseas in April 1942 and landed in France on D-Day June 4, 1944. He was wounded and taken as a prisoner-of-war on June 9 and was sent to a prison camp hospital. He then rejoined a Canadian troop on August 4, 1944 and returned to England. Charlie arrived in Winnipeg, MB on November 6 and received his discharge on June 6, 1945. Charlie was born and raised in Clarkleigh, MB on August 27, 1920, and grew up in the area with his close friends the Bennetts, Fortins, Greenhams and many other friends and neighbours. He had many fond memories of his years working in East Meadows where he met his bride Pat. Charlie and Pat were married on April 27, 1957 in Lundar, MB and raised their family on the original Burdett homestead in Clarkleigh. He was a very devoted and active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 185 and was the oldest living veteran of this branch. Charlie loved animals and especially his very devoted "Kat" whom he also leaves behind. All those who knew him and loved him will miss his honesty, caring and integrity with which he lived his life -- and he did so to the fullest. One of his nephews quotes "Uncle Charlie will be missed by all who knew him. We loved him very much. He was a very special man with a big heart and an infectious giggle." At Charlies request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, at the Lundar Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to follow in the Minnewaken Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Graham, Jeff, Ryan, Jordan, Donny and Devon. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Janelle, Shona, Natasha, Taylor, Jennifer, Tegan and great-granddaughter Dystinee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lundar New Horizons Club, General Delivery, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0. Arrangements by Arnason Funeral Homes Ltd. Ashern - Lundar 1-204-768-2072
