MARGARET HOEPPNER (nee REIMER) Just before noon on July 20, 2004, after a brief illness, at Salem Personal Care Home, Winkler, MB, Margaret Hoeppner was called home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her son Edwin (Anne) and by three grand-children, Dirk Sean Hoeppner, Jill Stevens Magill, Alpine, WY, Scot (Terry) Stevens, Gibsons, BC; and by two great-grandchildren, Cody Stevens, and Shayla Stevens; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her daughter Myrna Helen, in 1980, and by her husband Peter M. Hoeppner, in 1987, and most recently by her one remaining younger sister Aganetha Leppky, in May 2004. Margaret was born in the no longer extant village of Schoenhorst, north east of Gretna, 1905, October 13, the sixth of eight children of Dietrich and Helena Reimer. She lost her mother in 1913 and her ailing father in 1915. She and her siblings were effectively orphans in 1913, and the children were dispersed to foster families. Margaret was taken in by the Johann Hamm family of Neubergthal, south east of Altona. At the age of 14 she left home to work for her living as a maid and cook for families throughout the Gretna-Morden-Myrtle area, and in Winnipeg and Steinbach. Margaret was a person of high standards in life and work, thorough and efficient, capable and self-reliant, devoted to her children, in some ways a perfectionist. She made persistent efforts to maintain contact with her siblings and later their spouses too. All of her uncles and aunts had immigrated to Paraguay in the 1920s. In 1929 she and Peter M. Hoeppner were married and at that time she transferred her church membership to the Bergthaler Mennonite Church. The family wishes to thank the staff of Eden Mental Health Centre and of Salem Personal Care Home, Winkler, for the many years of excellent care, which Margaret enjoyed during well over a decade of suffering as an Alzheimers patient. We also wish to acknowledge and thank her niece and her husband, Tina and Jake Hildebrand, for the many years of weekly visits and ministering to Margaret. Viewing will be held on Friday, July 23 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler and at the church prior to the service. Funeral service will take place Saturday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church with Pastor Menno Janzen and Jake Hildebrand officiating. If friends so desire, donations in Margarets memory may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler in care of arrangements, 204-325-4201 www.wiebefuneralhomes.com
