DOROTHY STUART BETT Peacefully, on the evening of Monday, July 19, 2004, our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Bett passed away at the age of 73 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and their families, Shona, Gary, Shane and Wes Treleaven; and Sandra, Ken, Claire, Milo and Ellen Friesen. Bett was predeceased by her best friend and husband Albert; and her infant grandson Neil. Bett was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1931 and was adopted and raised by her grandmother Isabella Robertson. Bett and Albert met and married in 1951 and became a family soon after with the births of their daughters, Shona and Sandra. In 1958, the family immigrated to Canada aboard the Queen Elizabeth II. She worked at the Chocolate Shop, The Pancake House at Polo Park for 17 years and Metro Drugs. Bett stopped working when Albert got sick and after his death, she found joy in spending time with her three young grandchildren. Claire, Milo and Ellen will cherish the memories of afternoons with Grandma. She loved family get-togethers and every gathering was cause for celebration. Bett loved to travel, whether it was enjoying boat cruises with Albert, camping with her girls, or taking weekend jaunts with their friends to country fairs. All who met her saw a woman who loved life, who enjoyed good food and friendship and music. Many will remember Bett as the first one up on the dance floor. She continued to dance and sing with the staff at West Park Manor, her home for the past seven years. A Celebration of Betts Life will be held on Monday, August 9 at 5:00 p.m. at West Park Manor, 3199 Grant Ave. Her remains will be taken back to Scotland and laid to rest beside those of her husband, Albert. Shona and Sandra are grateful for the kindness, respect and compassion Bett received from her extended family at West Park. They would also like to acknowledge the support and friendship of Moms friend Helma in Vancouver and of Di and Jimmy Stuart in Scotland. The cards and letters never stopped coming even when Mom was no longer able to appreciate them. Mom loved flowers - in her honour buy yourself a bouquet and enjoy them or if you wish, donations in Betts memory may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba Inc., Unit 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or a charity of ones choice. For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
