Date of Passing: Jul 21, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES JOHN MITCHELL (J.J.) August 9, 1913 - July 21, 2004 It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to our dad, grampa, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Jim will be sadly missed by his son Brian; daughter Cindy (Jeff) his grandchildren, Kris (Brittany), Jamie, Tricia; and great-grandson Eagen; as well as his numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Iris and John whom he counted on dearly. Jim was predeceased by his wife Patricia, sister Babs, brother Bruce and dear sister-in-law Brenda. Born and raised in St. Vital, Jim then went on to raise his family in the community that he loved and knew so well where he could give you a history lesson on anything you wanted to know and more. After serving in the army from 1944 to 1946, Jim worked for the Canadian National Railway for 40 years. It was here that he had many friends that he cherished for his whole life and well into retirement, he especially enjoyed his monthly breakfasts with the gang. Jim was devoted to his beloved wife Pat who he had met and eventually married in 1951. One of his many passions was getting in the car with Pat and the family and spending time at Winnipeg Beach and after retirement travelling across Canada by train or car with Pat as his co-engineer. His greatest and simplest pleasure was doing anything and everything for his family and friends. It is with much gratitude the family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Boniface Hospital. A funeral service will take place on Monday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. in Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Interment will follow at St. Vital Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. Dad, you are the best dad in the world. You were always there for us no matter what. We are going to miss you so much. We have to believe that our loss will be moms gain. We will always hold a special place in our hearts for you and never forget what you have given us in wisdom and love. We love you so much! I met “JJ” in the late fall of 1977, he worked at the roundhouse, (what is now The Forks), to participate in year 1 of welding classes. A kinder gentleman I don’t think I could have met during that time in my life. He was so very kind to me, even all these so many years later, I have never forgotten him. A true gentleman if there ever was one. Most sincerely Ed Smith… - Posted by: Ed Smith (Fellow worker) on: Oct 28, 2023
