DONALD MUNRO CASSELS Don passed away peacefully at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, July 24, 2004 at age 87 with his family at his side. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Dora Cassels (Jensen), Stonewall; daughters, Christina Cassels (Sandra Summers), Winnipeg and Donna Cassels (Bill Holland), Dallas, Texas; and grandsons, James, Trevor and Warren Rinn. Don is survived by his sister Eleanor Sparling, Flin Flon; sisters-in-law, Audrey Cassels, Winnipeg and Edie Jensen, Argyle; and many nieces and nephews. Don was born May 5, 1917 at Oak Ridge Farm, Warren. He spent the majority of his working life (1941-1967) with the RCAF and lived in many different parts of Canada. In 1967, he moved to Stonewall where he worked for Elephant Brand Fertilizer, South Interlake Credit Union and Bristol Aerospace until he retired in 1982. Don was an avid golfer, curler, bridge player and square dancer. He and Dora enjoyed travelling and spent 15 winters in Mesa, Arizona. Don was a loving and caring husband, father and Poppy. A self-taught carpenter, he was a practical man gifted in understanding how things worked. He was always available to family and community serving as Magistrate and Justice of the Peace, Town Councillor, Chair of Planning Committee and Board Member for Rosewood Lodge. Don was a member of the Stonewall Legion and IOOF. He touched many with his twinkling eyes and beautiful smile. Sincere thanks to the staff of The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their kindness and understanding particularly in the last days of Dons life. A memorial service will take place on Friday, August 6, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. A private family interment will take place in Warren Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dons name to the Stonewall United Church or Stonewall Hospital. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
