Winnie was predeceased by her husband Gordon; a sister Mildred and other family members. She leaves surviving three daughters, Janice (Dean), Leslie (Richard) and Gail (Taras) a son Roy; grandchildren, Bob, Brad and Tyra (Curtis) great-grandchildren, Nicholas and A.J.; brothers, Buck and Tom; sisters, Anna (Don), Mae (Edd), Grace (Barry) brother-in-law Victor; sisters-in-law, Joyce and Leona (Gordon) and many relatives and friends. Winnie spent her young life growing up on a farm in Petersfield. She served her country in the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Navy as a teletype coder at ACHQ Halifax. She had the honour of sending the last message of the war to end hostilities. To all ships at sea, to splice the main brace. She played Hockey for the Navys Girls Team and travelled extensively through Eastern Canada during her tour of duty. She got into a little trouble sometimes, A.W.O.L. once, but that really wasnt her fault. She returned to Manitoba after the war, found life a little too tame and not much work, so her and some friends moved on to B.C. to see the rest of Canada. All this time she was missing her someone special. She returned home and married Gordon Carson and had four children and spent the remainder of her life in Selkirk. Winnie worked at Betel Home for 25 years. She enjoyed family gatherings, nature and of course watching hockey games. She was involved in the beginnings of CAMR, a school for mentally handicapped children, which grew to become ACL Selkirk. She enjoyed travelling with family, especially long weekend trips to Calgary to visit her sister Mae and her family. Winnie was very quiet until you got her going on one of her Navy stories. Then she came to life. She spent her final years as a resident of the Selkirk Betel Home battling Parkinsons Disease and Osteoporosis. Even in her suffering she loved and enjoyed the visits of friends and family. Winnie, "Mother, Sister, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, Great-grandmother", you will be missed by many. Wed like to thank the ladies from Home Care who looked after our Mom while she was at home and a special thanks to the staff at the Betel Home who looked after our mom with such care and compassion.
