JEAN (EUGENIA "JENNIE") MISURAK (nee OSTAPCHUK) On Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Extendicare/Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home, Jean passed away at the age of 91 years. She is survived by her three daughters, Joan Sigurdson (Randy), Maureen Flanagan (Michael) and Violet Misurak; grandchildren, Randy and Trinity Sigurdson, Alex, Julian and Christian Flanagan and great-granddaughter Isabella, daughter of Trinity Sigurdson. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Daniel Ostapchuk many years ago, as well as three of her siblings. Jean was born on November 20, 1912 in Winnipeg to hard-working Ukrainian parents and grew up in the north end of the city. Her life spanned most of the 20th century and then some. She had an inexhaustible supply of stories about growing up in Winnipegs north end, where she learned how to become self-reliant at a fairly early age. Although aided by her parents, she pretty much made her own way in the world. Jean was a worker. Starting at about 16 years old, she worked as a dressmaker, but it didnt suit her. She spent most of her working life in bakeries; first Picardys and then Eatons until retirement at 65 years of age. Our family wishes we had some of those famous Picardy recipes. Following retirement, Jean spent a lot of time with grandson Randy and granddaughter Trinity. She loved children as much as they loved her. Jean had a gift for making children feel good. She had equally as much fun with them as they did with her. At 70, Jean moved to Victoria, BC and got acquainted with Maureens children, Alex, Julian and Christian. She had the same effect on them as she did on Randy and Trinity. Jean became affectionately known as Grandma Jean to the boys and to many other people in Victoria. Seven years later, in her late 70s, Jean moved to Toronto where she resided with Violet. In 1992, they both returned to Winnipeg where they remained for most of the years. Mom and Violet really enjoyed living together and Violet would have preferred if the living arrangements had gone on forever, but time finally took its toll. At 86, Jean was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, which bit by bit wore her down over the five intervening years from diagnosis to death. In accordance with Jeans wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Our family thanks Dr. Patricia Harris and the staff at the Grace Cancer Care for their compassionate care given our mother, as well, thanks to the staff at the Grace General Hospital for the care they provided her in April and June of this year. So many people were so kind to her. During the last month of her life, the excellent staff at Tuxedo Villa did everything they could for her and we are very grateful for that. Thank you so much. Our family also thanks the home care workers, especially Jackie, Nicole and the nurses, especially Janice Bird. They were all so kind and caring to Mom. "We will always love you, Mom." "She was fair of face and tender-natured. She brought light and happiness to everyone she met." WOJCIKS ALL BELIEFS & FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
