B JOAN SPARKS (nee THOMAS) Peacefully, after a lengthy and courageous battle with lung disease, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Joan, on Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 69 years. In addition to her husband Don, of 41 years of marriage; Joan is survived by her sons, Stephen and Brent; daughter Melanie; grandchildren, Tia, Craig, Brandyn and Krysten; sister Lynn; as well as numerous nieces; relatives; and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Minnie Thomas; sister Wilma; and her brother Doug. Joan was born in Pelly, SK and began her career as a school teacher in 1956. She met her husband Don while teaching for the Royal Canadian Air Force in Germany in 1962. A Celebration of Joans Life will be held on Tuesday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Ave. at Rouge Road. As per the familys wishes, please feel free to dress casually. A private family interment will be held at Assumption Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Joans memory may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
