DMYTRO WYSHNIOWSKY It is with great sadness and a terrible sense of loss that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and Dido, Dmytro Wyshniowsky. He passed away peacefully in his beloved wifes arms at the age of 85, at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Ward on July 29, 2004. Dmytro will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Julia; his daughter Olga (Gord Ptashnick) and their daughters, Carly, Michelle, Victoria, and Janelle; and son Jerry (Carol Roberts). Dmytro was born on October 8, 1918, in Horodenka, Ukraine as the third oldest of seven brothers, all predeceased. As a young man he trained as an apprentice tailor in Lvov, a trade and an art that he practised throughout his life. During the war he worked in a German labour camp, where he met his first and only love, Julia, who became his wife on June 2, 1947. They moved to Venezuela in 1948, where they experienced the joy of the birth of a son, Yurie, in 1952. Unfortunately they suffered the loss of their first child at the age of 18 months, which compelled Dmytro and Julia to seek a new life in a new country full of opportunity. In 1954 they immigrated to Canada. Dmytro began work at Cravats Tailors on Main Street, and before long they were overjoyed by the birth of their first daughter, Olga, followed several years later by a second son, Jaroslaw (Jerry). Dmytro was committed to ensuring that his children received the best possible education in both public school and in the familys native language and culture. He was very involved with the Ukrainian National Federation (UNF), where both children attended Ukrainian language and dance lessons. Dmytro enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, with whom he loved to laugh and joke. The family took many road trips in his pride and joy, a red Vauxhall Super, visiting old friends and relatives. He later worked as a tailor at Eatons Polo Park until his retirement at the age of 65, however, he continued as a part time employee for five more years. When he finally retired, he was always happy to hem a pant cuff for a friend or neighbour. Throughout his retirement and until his recent illness, Dmytro never slowed down. He took every opportunity to look after granddaughters with great enjoyment and loving care, building a special lasting relationship and memory, that only a Dido can provide. Throughout his life, Dmytro was a very compassionate and generous man who will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Please join us in celebrating his life during prayers at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at 7:00 p.m. on August 2. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary the Protectress Cathedral at 820 Burrows Ave. at 10:00 a.m. on August 3, followed by interment at Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Special appreciation is extended to The Palliative Care Program staff, who supported our family so professionally and compassionately throughout Dmytros illness. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
