MARTHA ELSA WENSEL (KUNKEL) (nee SCHICK) Peacefully, on Saturday, July 31, 2004, Martha Wensel passed away at the age of 102 years at the East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, MB. Martha was born on November 11, 1901, in Germany. She married Rudolf Kunkel on October 9, 1924. They came to Canada in 1929 and farmed in the Whitemouth area. They moved to Lydiatt in 1946. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolf in 1956. Martha remarried in 1959 to Henry Wensel and they lived in Beausejour. They moved to Stony Plains in 1985. Martha was predeceased by her second husband Henry Wensel in 1989. Since 2000, she has been residing at East Gate Lodge. Many thanks to the staff at East Gate for their loving care. She leaves to mourn her children Ella (Charles) Campbell of Victoria, BC, Rudy (Ethel) Kunkel of Beausejour, Henry (Frances) Kunkel and George (Eunice) Kunkel of Transcona; 13 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 5, at 2:00 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, First Street and Gertrude Avenue, Beausejour with Pastor Hugh Laidlaw officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Lydiatt. Friends may view prior to the service.
