BRENT RAYMOND HICKS On August 2, 2004, after a brave and courageous battle with leukemia, God wrapped his loving arms around Brent and lifted his spirit home. Brent was born in Prince Albert, SK on May 19, 1938. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years Beverly; his daughter DArcy (Brett) Summers and two grandsons, Sean and Jordan Summers; his mother Gertrude; sister Bonnie Ambrose (Tommy) brother Borden (Judy) and their families; mother-in-law Frieda Oswald; brother-in-law Ken (Joanne) and their families; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Elmer Roy Hicks in July of 2003 and father-in-law, Edward Oswald in January 1997. Brent accomplished many achievements in his short life. Brent was a believer in entrepreneurial endeavours and ventured out to try many businesses. His most current business was Grandma Lees at the TD Centre which he retired from in November 2003. He felt the best part of the business was his relationship with his customers and his desire to always remain positive and have a joke to share. He will always be grateful for the help and support of his "store wife", (named Beverly) Michell, who made sure his business was looked after. Among his lifes achievements, he said he was most proud of his daughter DArcy and her family. He delighted in the many laughs at family dinners where hours would be spent sitting around the table listening to his grandchildren and son-in-law regale him with their many stories. The boys enjoyed sharing a special "float" with Grandpa Brent when they came over to visit. His little dog, Poco, was another joy in his life. An interest of Brents from a young age was travelling and to own a small plane one day. He was proud of his accomplishment in obtaining a pilots license at the young age of 16 years. His time spent as president of the North West Commercial Travellers Association of Canada where he made many friends was another proud achievement. Brent loved to travel and he and Bev saw much of Canada, United States and Europe as well as Africa. He had a gift of direction and could navigate in Ireland and Scotland as though he were there all his life. Brent will always be remembered for his love of sports and his loyalty to the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. In fact, he rallied his strength several nights before his passing in hospital, through his pain, to watch a game. Bev and DArcy will always be grateful to friends who rallied to support Brent during this short, but stress filled 65 days. Special thanks to Verna, Judy, Jessie, Irene and Heather for their vigilance at bedside during this difficult time. Special thanks to Father John McKenzie who was so gracious with his time and whom Brent admired. Also thanks to the compassionate nurses who helped Brent along his journey home, Jane Kasian, Richel, Marcy, Lisa, Esther and others too numerous to mention. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 6 at 1:00 p.m. in Holy Cross Parish, 252 Dubuc St. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Winnipeg Humane Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society. • I was a close friend of Brent when I lived at the Nesbitt Home in Prince Albert. Brent lived across the street and the Hicks family home was like my 2nd home. Brent was like a brother to me and we had lots of fun together. Wish I could have seen him once more before his passing. - Posted by: Selmer Ausland (Friend from childhood at 20th St. West and Nisbett Home in Prince Albert, Sask) on: Apr 10, 2022
