ROMAN SHEMELUK Peacefully with his wife at his side, Roman Shemeluk aged 86 years, of Dauphin, MB, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2004 at The Regional Health Care Centre. Roman was born on March 1, 1918. He is survived by his wife Elsie (Moshenko) daughters, Cheryl and husband Rob and grandchildren, Evan and Alexandra; Brenda and husband Ron and grandchildren, Eric, Jillian and Janina; Janet and husband Terry and grandchildren, Brent and Jana. sons, Gerald and wife Adeline and grandchildren, Tanis and Rea; Raymond and grandchildren, Jason and Jeritt and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Casey, Samantha, Anabelle and Jennifer. Also brothers, Mike and Harry; sister Ann and sisters-in-law, Elsie and Elizabeth. Roman was predeceased by his parents, Dmetro and Anna of Borchiw, Ukraine; brothers, William and John and sisters, Pearl, Mary, Winnie, Nellie, Helen and Doris. Roman married Elsie Moshenko in 1953 and they celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2003. They farmed in the Garland area for 38 years and retired to Dauphin in 1991. Roman and Elsies love of farming brought them countless rewards and their success in raising cattle was their pride and joy. Roman was a vital part of the Garland Community and generously volunteered his time. He served as President of the Garland Hall and was Vice-President of the Garland Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Over the years he belonged to countless committees. Roman enjoyed all sports and was a terrific dancer. He loved games and especially cards. At family gatherings you would find dad, his children and grandchildren having a competitive game of cards till all hours of the morning, laughing and joking the whole time. This will always be a special memory for us. In his retirement Roman enjoyed his bingo and cards at the Seniors Centre and will be missed by his many friends there. Roman had a wonderful sense of humour and he was always the life of any party or occasion. Prayers will be held on Friday, August 6 at 9:00 p.m. at The Sneath Strilchuk Funeral Chapel in Dauphin. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the Orthodox Ukrainian Church in Garland. Rev. Michael Lomaszkiewicz will officiate and interment followed at Garland Union Cemetery. Active Pallbearers are grandchildren, Jason, Jeritt, Brent, Jana, Tanis and Rea. Honorary Pallbearers are grandchildren, Eric and Evan. Cross bearer, Godchild Grant Prysiazniak. The family would like to thank Dr. Penrose and Dr. Bretecher and all the staff on the second floor of Dauphin Regional Health Centre for all their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Garland, Garland, MB.
