EVELYN GLADSTONE Peacefully, on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 Evelyn Gladstone passed away at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 82 years. Evelyn will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Joe, her best friend and devoted husband of nearly 58 years; her daughter Frances (Jim) son Len (Arlene) grandchildren, Adam, Talia, Ryan and Brett; and great-granddaughter Hayley. She also leaves to cherish her memory three brothers, Reg, Elmer and Glen Carther; four sisters, Pearl McCorquodale, Doreen Nicklen, Cora Moffat and Shirley Conners; as well as many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, George and Viola Carther; brother Telford Carther and sister Melba Thom. Evelyn led a very active, fulfilling life. Together with her husband Joe she travelled extensively, danced, bowled, curled, golfed and played tennis. Somehow in between she also found time to pursue her love of cooking and baking. In her travels with Joe they discovered the "aloha" of Hawaii and decided to make it their second home during the winter months. Throughout her life Evelyn had an active involvement in the community serving as President of the Rosh Pina Synagogue Sisterhood, President of Aliyah Chapter of Hadassah, and President of the Ladies Golf Association of Glendale Country Club. Evelyn was kind and generous in all aspects of her life and gave tirelessly of her time. She was a source of strength, courage and devotion to both family and friends. Even as her health failed she remained the embodiment of great will and courage. Independence, strength and a sense of purpose characterized her life. Her passing leaves a huge void in our lives, but she will always be remembered with love. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and all the caring and supporting staff of 3 East at Riverview Health Centre. We also wish to express to our family and friends our gratitude for their unfailing kindness and support. Funeral services were held August 6, 2004 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue officiated by Rabbi Alan Green. Pallbearers were Adam McGinnes, Talia McGinnes, Ryan Gladstone, Brett Gladstone, Morley Chess, Zivy Chudnow and David Meyrowitz.
