WILLIAM SMITH 1918 - 2004 Peacefully at his residence, Bill Smith passed away on August 3, 2004 after a short illness, at the age of 85 years. Dad was born on August 18, 1918 in Melfort, SK. Dad lived most of his life in Camper, MB. He farmed for many years and also worked for Manitoba Hydro for 28 1/2 years. After his retirement from Hydro, Dad took up several hobbies. He was always going to the bush with the boys to cut wood for the winter. Dad always made sure that there was a plentiful supply of wood for upcoming events. Dad loved to work in his vegetable garden and flower gardens. He took great pride in how his yard looked and also took care of Moms grave. There was always work to do on his tractors. Dad liked going to auction sales and yard sales. He belonged to the Camper New Horizons Club, and always went to to play bingo at Camper and Ashern . He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Lloyd (Dale), Shirley (Garry), Carolyn (Fred), Ken (Barb), Darlene (Reg), Keith (Lorraine), Laverne (Victor), Debbie (Wilf), Gary (Nadine), Gail (Larry), Robert (Wendy), Ernest (Lesley) and Terry (Kathy) also 33 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Ellen Smith, Mina (Ed), Dorothy, and Dody (Ken) a brother-in-law Phillip (Mary) and his Auntie Chrissie; also many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 1990, his parents George and Flora, and an infant daughter Sharon in 1945; also a son-in-law Elvin Kufus, his brother George, his father and mother-in-law Phillip and Barbara Mattern, and his brothers-in-law Ernie, Charlie and George. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2004 at the Camper Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Interment to follow in the Lakeside Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren and all his great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his six grandsons David, Darrell, Raynard, Kenneth, Michael and Jack. Friends and relatives may pay their respects between 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff and also Glen Arnason and John Gray for their services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St. Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
