DOREEN DARTNELL Doreen Dartnell passed away peacefully with her family at her side at St. Boniface Hospital on August 5, 2004. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, of 63 years Clint; her sons, Terry (Carol) and Michael; sister Edna; grandchildren, Jenean, Michael, Lindsey, Erin and great-granddaughter Kyla. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Matilda Luney; sister Jenny; brothers, Robert, William and John (Jock). Born in Transcona, MB on December 18, 1915 where she attended Central High School until she left to work at Eatons where she met Clint whom she married in Esquimalt, BC on February 4, 1941. Doreen was a very determined person which enabled her to overcome a 30 year long fear of water, caused by a near drowning accident in 1941, by completing all levels of Red Cross swimming. This led her to become a qualified swimming instructor at the South Calgary YMCA where she taught swimming to children, six months to two years old, "The Water Babies". Her interests were many and varied including knitting for the Manitoba Craft Guild, yoga, ceramics, jogging and swimming. Doreen loved people and her genuine warmth and compassion touched everyone she met throughout her life. The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to the staffs of Concordia, Grace and St. Boniface Hospitals for their exceptional comfort and care. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 11, Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations may be made to Faith Bible Camp, 795 Valour Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3B3 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
