HELEN SMITH (nee Kshywiecki) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grand-mother, sister, mother-in-law and aunt Helen Smith on August 7, 2004 at the age of 81. Helen passed away at the Winnipegosis-Mossey River Personal Care Home where she had resided for the past four years. Helen was born in Dauphin, MB on April 7, 1923. She resided in the Pulp River District until her marriage to Alex Smith in 1948, then resided in the Village of Winnipegosis, MB. Helen will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Peter (Sylvia) Smith, Ernie (Marliss) Smith, Mary Sokulski, Rosalie (Willie) Bornn, Loretta (Gordon) Dyck, Barb Smith and Al Smith; grandchildren, Steven, Gerald, Grant and Gordon Smith, Juanita Davis, Kathleen Sokulski, Richard Bornn, Allison and Angela Dyck, Brian and Erin Plesh and Alexander Smith; great-grandchildren, James, Shelby, Jamie, Kayla, Kirsten, Zoe, Anastasia and Ayden; brothers and sisters, Jean (John) Matwee, Tony (Marion), Anne (Mike) Chrupalo, Joanne (Ken) Baker, Walter (Dolores), Albert (Eleanor), Adeline (Peter) Pelypiw, Frances (Jim) Mansell; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends including her companion cat "Sweetie". Helen was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Marie; her brother Frank; her son-in-law Ken; her nephews, Terry and Vaughn and her husband Alex in 1998. Helen will be remembered for her generosity and hospitality to everyone who touched her life. She loved to cook, bake, garden, pick berries and mushrooms, make pickles, wine and jam and share the fruits of her labour with her family and friends. Anyone who visited her never left hungry or empty-handed. "Babas house" was a very special place especially for the grandchildren who were spoiled with endless treats. Helen loved to read, play cards and bingo, share pots of coffee and listen to all the happening events on CKDM Radio. A viewing was held at the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m. from the Holy Ascension Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipegosis, MB with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Crossbearer will be Alexander Smith, Cantor will be Holly Hryhoruk and the Eulogist will be Ernie Smith. Floral tributes gratefully declined, however donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Winnipegosis-Mossey River Personal Care Home, in care of Winnipegosis and District Health Centre, P.O. Box 280, Winnipegosis, MB R0L 2G0. The family would like to THANK all the staff at the Winnipegosis-Mossey River Personal Care Home for your kindness and excellent care given to Helen over the past four years. Helen suffered from Alzheimers Disease and caring for her on an ongoing basis was difficult at times but, the staff were always loving and understanding towards her needs. "DEATH IS NOTHING AT ALL; IT DOES NOT COUNT "I HAVE ONLY SLIPPED AWAY INTO THE NEXT ROOM" "BLESSED ARE THEY THAT MOURN, "FOR THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED" "VICHNYA PAMYAT" The Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Service has care of the funeral arrangements.
