ALBERT GEORGE (AL) MONTAGNON April 23, 1933 - August 8, 2004 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Al on August 8 at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Ward with his family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Cece Marks, his son Dan (Lin), daughters, Terri (Keith), Lorraine (Chris) and Joanne (Pat) his step-daughters, Rhonda (Gary) and Denise (Tim). Also left to mourn his passing are his two sisters, Aurore and Alice, sister-in-law Dorothy, his 11 grandchildren, one great-grandson, his first wife Joan and by his many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by both parents, Cyprien and Rose, his brothers, Arthur (Archie) and Armand and his daughter Susan. Al was born in and spent his entire life in Winnipeg and attended St. Pauls High School. Al began his working life with Searle Grain; switching careers after 13 years to own and operate a Temporary Help Agency. After the death of his brother-in-law and partner, Al continued working in this field for Aactive Personnel. During the 60s and 70s Al spent many hours volunteering with Minor Hockey and the Golden Falcon Golf Tournament. Al also was at one time a Rotarian. Prior to and during his retirement years he returned to playing golf and enjoyed travel to Europe, and the winter warm spots in the Caribbean and the southern U.S. and Hawaii. Al was affectionately known as "Uncle Al, the kiddies Pal" and "Crazy Grandpa" to his nieces and nephews and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humour, loved playing practical jokes and displayed many acts of kindness to many people who crossed his path. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 13 at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the many doctors and health care professionals who provided care to Al during the last several months. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire donations to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2V 0B3 or to Palliative Care Endowment Fund, c/o St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 would be appreciated.
