BARBARA HELEN BURCHNALL (nee YARWOOD) Peacefully at Hinton, AB on Monday, July 19, 2004 less than a week after being diagnosed with stomach cancer. She is survived by her husband, Keith; mother Jean Yarwood; sons, Alexander (Janette) Kondra, Andrew (Joy) Kondra; sister Frances (Pantouses) Kaltsikes and niece Eleni Kaltsikes. She was predeceased by her father, Frank Yarwood in 1989. Helen was born in Ottawa June 29, 1944 and grew up in St. James, attending St. James Collegiate. She earned her Bachelor of Education with Distinction from the University of Alberta in 1979. While living in Edmonton, she was spokesperson for a community activist group, sat on the board of directors of Edmontons most avant-garde theatre group, taught remedial English and ESL. A resident of Tete Jaune Cache, British Columbia, since 1989, she ran the Rainbow Retreat Bed and Breakfast, was active in the community, sang alto in the community choir and wrote a column, "Food, Glorious Food" for the Robson Valley Times. A memorial service was conducted by Fr. Martin Moser in Tete Jaune Cache, July 24. Cremation followed.
