Date of Passing: Aug 11, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER HENDERSON SHIELS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alex at home, on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at the age of 86. He is survived by sons, Roderick and Fergus (Sally) and grandchildren, David, Robyn and Angela. Dad was predeceased by his wife Olga in 2001 and daughter Morag in 2003. Alex was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1918. He started his working life in the hotel industry before joining Franco British Electric Signs. Except for service with the British Army (R.E.M.E) during the war, dad remained with Franco as manager of installations for Southern England, including London, until the family immigrated to Canada in 1961. Upon his arrival in Winnipeg, Alex worked at several endeavours until he joined Belle Signs as a partner. He worked hard until his retirement to make Belle the best commercial sign company in the city. Alex was a member of Red River Lodge No.172 and Khartum Temple. He joined the Khartum Komedians and spent many happy hours in makeup as "Jocko" spreading mirth and merriment far and wide. Dad leaves us to join his beloved wife and daughter. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and will be followed by a private family interment. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Shrine Sneaker Fund in care of Khartum Temple, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9.
