Offer Condolences or MemoryREVEREND OWEN TUDOR HUGHES August 22, 1915 - August 12, 2004 With his daughter at his side, Tudor passed away at Victoria General Hospital, where he had been for a brief period. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Nellie Thompson; son Owen; daughter Christine; brothers-in-law, Alan Bartlett and Allan Robertson; his nieces, Dorothy Anne, Mary Jean, Margaret Lois, Janice Patricia; and nephews, John George and Melvin Craig. Tudor was predeceased by his wife, Mary Fern; his parents, Mary Jane and John Hughes; his sister Edith Mary; his brother Trevor Jones; his mother-in-law Dorothy Bartlett; his brother-in-law David Thompson; and his sister-in-law, Ruth Irene Robertson. During the war Tudor was with the Royal Canadian Air force and trained as a flight engineer, and became a radar instructor. After the war Tudor returned to Winnipeg to study Theology at United College and was ordained as a Minister in the United Church of Canada in 1952. He married Fern Bartlett in 1953. He began his ministry in rural Manitoba and then moved to Toronto for a period. He returned to Winnipeg in 1960 and was the minister at Charleswood United Church until 1980 when he retired. For a short period he was the interim minister at St. Stephens Broadway United Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Victoria General Hospital, who provided exceptional care and comfort, and Wendy, Gary, Julie and Kyle Van Caeyzeele, who made it possible for Tudor to live independently in this last year. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 24 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or the United Church of Canadian Mission and Service Funds, 3250 Bloor St. West, Suite 300, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2Y4.
