C. DOUG DENT Peacefully in his sleep on August 15, 2004, with his entire family at his side, Doug drifted away, at the age of 52. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janet; children, Carlton (Leanne) and Leslie; granddaughter, Abby; his parents, Ted and Alice; brother Jack (Lauren) and their children, Melissa and John. He will be sadly missed by Janets family: mother Jean (predeceased by John) brother Bob (Barb) sister Marilyn (Bill) brother Raymond (Vera) brother Richard (Debby) and all his nieces and nephews. In addition to his immediate family Doug will be missed by friends and family at work, in the community and around the world. Doug was born on August 2, 1952 in Dauphin, MB where he lived until moving to Winnipeg to attend the University of Manitoba. After graduating with an Arts degree, Doug completed the CGA program. He devoted his entire career to Air Canada working in a number of positions within Finance, and most recently as Director of Passenger Revenue Accounting. Doug touched the hearts of many during his 31 years with the company. Doug was generous, caring, fair, well respected, and his sense of humour was enjoyed by everyone. He never judged anyone. Addressing people by name was a sign of his respect for others. Doug was dependable and could always be counted on to complete a task with precision and punctuality. Doug was passionate about his family, work and his community. He enjoyed travelling, skiing, curling, golf, and the camaraderie surrounding the game. Community activities important to Doug included Pembina Curling Club, Fort Garry Community Club, Summit Ski Club, Ducks Unlimited, and organizing or participating in various events through Air Canada. Doug was recognized for his volunteer spirit by all of these organizations. Doug loved to travel and was very generous, offering the opportunity to participate in his experiences with family and friends. Among the many trips he planned were baseball games, shopping trips, and weekends on a whim. During his battle with cancer, Doug was very humbled and appreciative of the outpouring of well wishes and support from family, friends and colleagues. He believed that he could "rally for the team". The family would like to thank the staff on H3 at the Health Science Centre for their care, compassion and communication which helped them through this difficult time. A celebration of Dougs life will be held at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillvray Blvd. at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday August 19, 2004. In 2003 Doug participated in the Dreams Take Flight trip to Disney World which is an opportunity to make "Magical Memories for Special Kids". He was in awe of the way it was organized by volunteers and the appreciation that the children showed at the chance to take this once in a life time trip.
