SMAILES Peacefully on August 13, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side, our family chain was broken and nothing will be the same. But as God calls us one by one, our chain will link again. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter Donna; his loving and devoted three grandsons, Tyler-Joann, Todd and Amanda, and Tadd and Lynn, and cherished three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Chelsey and Emilie. He leaves behind one sister Phyllis Wright of Calgary, and nieces and nephews in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Colorado. John was born on March 24, 1915 in Oak River, MB. He married Gladys Smailes Cockburn in Montreal in 1941 and moved to Forget, SK where he had his own hardware store and delivered bulk fuel. He later worked for Sears in Estevan, Weyburn and Yorkton. After moving to Winnipeg, he worked for McClouds and Gambles until retirement. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, with viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Dad will be laid to rest in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. He will take his place beside his wife (my mother) Gladys Smailes, who was taken from us in March 1999, whom he loved and missed dearly. "Together Forever" Pallbearers will be his three grandchildren, Tyler, Todd and Tadd, and Gordon Cockburn, Paul Catellier and Joel Philion. Thank you for the years you gave us, and the happy times we shared. We love you Dad, you will always be in our hearts. We will miss you dearly. Rest in peace.
