Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERTHA ISFELD (nee KJARTANSON) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Isfeld on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB after a brief illness at the age of 83 years. She was predeceased by her husband Gestur in 1997; her daughter Betty Fuller in 1988; her mother Margaret in 1975; her father Bjorgvin in 1932; her stepfather Thor and her brothers, Sigi, John and Gunnar. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Thorunn Fulton (Lloyd), Penticton, BC; sons, Robert Isfeld (Jacqueline), The Pas, MB, Steve Isfeld, Penticton; son-in-law Dick Fuller, Nanaimo, BC; grandsons, Rob (Tracy Prost), Winnipeg, Bill (Holly), Kenora, ON, Leifur Isfeld, The Pas, Jamie Fulton (Val), Penticton, David Fuller, Vancouver and granddaughters, Tammy Mallory (Mike), Penticton, Colleen Isfeld (Curtis Fehr), Winnipeg, Susan Fuller, White Rock, BC, Kathryn Fuller (Jeff Greaves), Burnaby, BC, Debra and Sandra Isfeld, Winnipeg and great-grandchildren, Amber, Shane, Nicholas, Krystianna, Liam, McKenna, Matthew, Gunnar, Hannah, Douglas, Alyssa, Jamiroquai, Alijah and Azariah. She is also survived by her brother, Stefan (Ellen) Kjartanson, Amaranth, MB and her many relatives and friends. Bertha was born in Beckville, MB on December 15, 1920. She grew up on a farm near Amaranth and attended Smalley School. She married Gestur in 1940, living in Amaranth for a brief time, and then moving to Winnipeg Beach, MB. While raising four children, she worked with her husband processing and selling fish. Bertha and Gestur moved to Penticton, BC in 1992 to be closer to their daughter Thorunn/Lloyd. Over the years in the Okanagan she took ample opportunity to enjoy the many fruits especially the cherries. Bertha battled cancer in 1994 and overcame it after being treated with radiation in Vancouver. For the last 10 years, Bertha lived with Thorunn and Lloyd and enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren in Penticton. Bertha was an avid letter writer and faithfully kept in contact with her many friends and relatives. She loved to read, especially the Icelandic newspaper and non fiction books. Bertha did not like to be idle and she kept busy knitting, crocheting and making quilts, especially for new babies. Bertha was deeply religious and attended the United Church in Winnipeg Beach and the Lutheran Church in Penticton. She was active up to the time of her illness, and loved going to garage sales, shopping at malls and having lunch with her son Steve. Special thanks to the staff at the Swan River Valley Hospital and the staff on the seventh floor in ICU in the Health Sciences Centre. Cremation has taken place and a graveside funeral service will be held at Husavick Cemetery (located 8 km. south of Gimli on Prov. Highway #8) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21 with a lunch to follow at a location to be announced. A memorial service will be held in Penticton at a later date. If you choose, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
