Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLOTTE CHRISTIE COOK On August 18, 2004, God put his arms around our mom, Charlotte, and peacefully led her home. She is now safe and without pain in Gods home, reunited with Dad. Charlotte Christie Cook (nee Chartier) was born on March 15, 1922, in Grand Rapids, MB, grew up there and lived there most of her life.Mom and Dad were married on July 24, 1939 and spent 44 happy years together. Mom worked at various jobs including Manitoba Hydro, and as a custodian at the hospital at Grand Rapids, and at a camp at Kelsey. She worked cleaning cabins at Hobbs Resort in Cross Lake and in Grand Rapids. Mom also spent many seasons in different camps trapping and fishing with her husband Neal. Mom enjoyed doing bead work, playing cards, bingo, and visiting in the neighbourhood.Charlotte was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.She spent many hours with her "babies", the more there were, the happier she was. Her first priority was her family and making sure everyone was okay.Mom had a strong faith and was ready to meet the Lord. Mom was a longtime member of the C.W.L. and enjoyed participating in the weekly sewing meetings. Mom lived in her own home until the fall of 2000. At this time, due to her health, she then resided with Anne and Leonard. She moved to the Pinawachi Personal Care Home in Norway House for a short period. Surviving are her children, her daughters, Florence (Jack) George, Jessie (Alfred) Anderson, Anne (Leonard) Flett, Rubena (Albert) Campbell and Rose Wilkins; her sons, Raymond (Joyce), George (Ethel), William (Edna) Absolom; her sister-in-law Edith Chartier; 51 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Jonas and Alice Chartier; her beloved husband Neal; her oldest son Jonas; and daughter-in-law Victoria; her grandsons, Douglas Cook, Geoffrey Cook, Douglas Flett, Gordie Cook; her daughter-in-law Eva Cook; son-in-law Errol Wilkins; and great-grandson Neal Cook; her sisters, Clara (Gabe) Dorian, Angelique (Dan) Cook, Josephine (Isadore) Mercredie; her brothers, Mac Chartier and Henry Chartier. A wake service will begin on Saturday, August 21 at the Grand Rapids RC Hall, beginning at 7:00 p.m.Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 23 at the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church, Grand Rapids, with Fr. Ed officiating.Interment to follow in the Grand Rapids Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Eric Cook, Andy Jacobson, Malcolm Cook, Skip (Gabe) Cook, Vincent Campbell, Lloyd Flett, Sonny McNabb, Greg Anderson, Keena Jones, Pat Cook, Randy Helgason, and Michael Cook. Crossbearers will be Angela George and Justin Anderson.Honorary pallbearers will be Preston McKay, Alice Robinson (Mrs), Suzette Mercredie, Veronica Mercredie, Winnie Gabriel, Mary Anne Ferland, Susie Mercredie, Yvonne Cook, Sally and Ian Munro, Cora and Davey Hourie, Charlotte Mercredie (Chucky), Andy Johnson, Madeline Cook, Jean Avanthay (Chick), Rose Desjarlais, Jeannie and Colin McKay. The family wishes to thank Anne and Leonard for providing a loving home for Mom during the last few years. Special thank you to Susie, Kim, Marlene, and Gladys for being there for us.Special thank you to her nieces and nephews from across the road for all the love and help they gave our mother during her lifetime.Also thanks to the staff at the nursing station in Grand Rapids, the ambulance drivers and attendants, her home care workers Mary Anne and Winnie, and the staff at 4A South Ward at the St. Boniface Hospital, Grand Rapids First Nation, doctors and staff of Norway House Hospital, the staff on the second floor at The Pas Complex, nurses and staff for the Pinawachi Care Home Norway House.
